- New freezer van to expand Prepared Food Rescue!
- Thank you, voters! Cambridge residents ages 12 & up had the opportunity to vote directly on how to spend $600,000 of the City’s capital budget.
The Prepared Food Rescue Freezer Van proposal won more votes than any other project on the ballot, and will be funded for FY 2016-2017![Learn about the winning projects!]Timeline is to be determined, but we could have access to the freezer van as early as fall of this year—stay tuned!

- We recently began working with Tufts University and Emmanuel College to collect surplus prepared foods from their respective dining services. Welcome! #gojumbos #gosaints
- New food program:
- We’ve added a new program at the Moore Youth Center: we’re now providing food for their afterschool program for teens, which offers homework assistance, arts, leadership development, and fun for youth age 14-19.
- New staff:
- We’re bidding a warm welcome to our new Program Director, Alanna Mallon, founder of the Cambridge Weekend Backpack Program, which was recently adopted by Food For Free [read all about it!]
- We’ve been spotted in the news:
- WBUR aired a spot about the food we rescued from Harvard right before the students went on winter break, and WBZ Radio & Matt’s Meals covered Food For Free during the holiday season.
- The Boston Globe, Mass Nonprofit News, and Education World all covered our adoption of the Cambridge Weekend Backpack Program.
- “This isn’t garbage; it’s nutritious, life-sustaining food.” Check out Sasha’s op-ed on surplus food, which appeared in the Cambridge Chronicle and a number of other local papers.
