We are always looking to improve our systems and programs in order to do more. In the last few months, we have:
- Expanded Home Delivery:
Possibly the most exciting change this winter is the expansion of our Home Delivery program, which now delivers twice a month thanks to a targeted donation from one of our very generous donors. This follows an expansion from 60 to 90 clients last year, made possible through a partnership with Boston Organics. In our next newsletter, we’ll tell you how the expansion is affecting our program recipients’ lives. Not on our email list? Sign up to receive news and opportunities to get involved!
- Rolled out a new operations system:
We’ve outgrown the old paper-to-spreadsheet tracking system we’ve used for 30 years. We recently rolled out a brand-new operations system that captures everything real-time on tablets and lets us do lots more with the data. Read more about how this system helps us do a better job of bridging the gap between waste and want.
- Installed new storage:
Our new walk-in freezer and walk-in root cellar will help us in our goal of prioritizing fresh produce, which, along with lean protein, is often the first thing to go when household budgets get squeezed. Now we can stock up on roots, apples and other veggies often brought to us from the Boston Area Gleaners, plus we can use the freezer to increase the meats we rescue and deliver.
