We’ve been busy this summer and fall! What have we been up to? We:
- Expanded service into high-need towns and neighborhoods. We are now serving several new cities and neighborhoods: Malden, Lynn, Lowell, and Allston-Brighton. We’ve also expanded our service to Chelsea and Dorchester.
-
Teamed up with Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) to start a mobile food pantry! The new program delivers brown bags of groceries to families being housed in hotels in Allston-Brighton. Food For Free provides supplemental vegetables and delivery services. Click for a 1.5 minute video introducing the Mobile Food Pantry!

Distributed 20,000 lbs of gleaned veggies for Thanksgiving delivered to us by the Boston Area Gleaners’ “10 Tons in 10 Days” pre-holiday gleaning marathon! We typically do a lot of extra purchasing at Thanksgiving to meet our recipient agencies’ needs for the holiday. This year, the Gleaners covered the majority of our extra produce needs with 20,000 lbs of farm-fresh apples, winter squash, carrots, and potatoes!

Purchased a new van! Our big truck and little truck have regular pickup and delivery schedules each day, and at this point, those schedules are maxed out.
Enter the new Food For Free van: a smaller and more maneuverable vehicle we’re using for on-demand pickups, special deliveries, and for getting into smaller loading areas (such as Harvard University dining halls) that don’t have enough room for a commercial truck.

Welcomed our newest employee, José Santana! With a new truck and expanded service, we needed a new team member.
Meet José Santana, the newest member of our Food For Free family!
