CENTRAL SQUARE’S NEWEST NEIGHBORS COME OUT TO PLAYFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Michelle Holcomb, 617-868-2900 ext. 132, michelle@foodforfree.org CENTRAL SQUARE’S NEWEST NEIGHBORS COME OUT TO PLAY (Cambridge, MA, September 13, 2006) Food For Free is delighted to announce that Mimi Huntington, Artistic Director of The Nora Theatre Company, and Debra Wise, Artistic Director of Underground Railway Theater, will be joining us on September 27 for our 25th anniversary celebration, The Party Under the Harvest Moon. Huntington and Wise will join a guest list that includes: Tom and Ray Magliozzi—“Click and Clack” from NPR’s Car Talk; singer-songwriter Livingston Taylor; alternative-energy guru Greg Watson; author of Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy, Walter Willett; WBUR host Robin Young; and historian and activist Howard Zinn. Huntington and Wise’s joint endeavor—The Central Square Theater—is slated to begin construction this fall with the hope of being open for the 2007 season. About the Party Under the Harvest Moon The Party Under the Harvest Moon will run from 6-10 p.m. on September 27 at MIT’s Morss Hall, 142 Memorial Drive, Cambridge. The party will feature finger foods and delectable sweets from numerous local restaurants and caterers, including Chez Henri, Elephant Walk, Rendezvous in Central Square, Niche Catour, Something Savory, Tables of Content, and Upstairs on the Square. Partygoers can kick up their feet to live dance music from The Funky White Honkies or stroll through the offerings of the silent auction which will include vacation getaways, dining excursions, and one-of-a-kind works of art. Tickets are $50 and are available by calling 617-868-2900 ext. 132, or on the web at foodforfree.org. Proceeds will benefit Food For Free’s Produce Rescue program. The Party Under the Harvest Moon is sponsored by MIT, Amgen, Cambridge Health Alliance, Harvard University, Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research, and W.T. Phelan Insurance. Additional sponsors include 1369 Coffee House, the Harvard Cooperative Society, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, and Mount Auburn Hospital. About Food For Free Food For Free responds to local hunger by rescuing fresh food that might otherwise go to waste and distributing it within the emergency food system where it can reach those in need. Each month, Food For Free’s Produce Rescue program distributes fresh fruits and vegetables to more than 50 local food programs that collectively serve between 15,000 and 20,000 individuals. Programs served include food pantries, emergency shelters, meal programs, clinics and youth centers. Food For Free expects to distribute more than 800,000 pounds of food in 2006. Food For Free’s other programs are Home Delivery, which provides monthly deliveries of food to low-income seniors and people with disabilities, and Field of Greens, which grows organic vegetables for distribution to emergency food programs.
