Food For Free is working to end hunger…
because there is enough to go around.

GETTING A GRIP ON DEMOCRACY

Frances Moore Lappé challenges citizens to examine their underlying assumptions and think about fear, power, democracy and hope itself in new ways. She argues that replacing a "circle of powerlessness" with a "circle of empowerment" enables a democratic society to reach its full potential.

Welcome to the Food For Free Committee website. Our intent is to provide you with:

  • Up-to-date information on food insecurity and hunger in the United States
  • Opportunities to volunteer for our daily operations and special events
  • News and events
  • Ways to donate to Food For Free
  • A direct line of communication between you and Food For Free.

Food For Free responds to local hunger by rescuing fresh food that might otherwise go to waste and distributing it within the emergency food system where it can reach those in need.

Nearly thirty million people in the United States live in “food insecure” households—households where access to sufficient food is unreliable. Yet, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that more than one-quarter of America’s food, or about 96 billion pounds, goes to waste each year. Food For Free responds to both waste and hunger by rescuing fresh fruits and vegetables before they go to waste, helping to provide healthy food to more than 40 local emergency food programs, and over 10,000 individuals.

All four of our programs seek to address hunger by delivering fresh, nutritious foods to people in need. And all depend on participation and financial support from people like you. Thank you for your interest in our work—and thank you for your support.
