2015: A very good year!

A man stands next to a table of produce with a sign that says "Food For Free."

HOW MUCH FOOD did we distribute in 2015?

IMG_6190Through our Food Rescue and Distribution programs, Food For Free distributed 2 million lbs of food in 2015!

In 2014, that number was 1.5 million lbs.

In 2013, it was 1 million.

No doubt about it: Food For Free is growing!

How much of that food was RESCUED?

Of that 2 million lbs of food, 1.8 million lbs were rescued from dining halls, grocery stores, farms, and other sources.

That’s the equivalent of about 1.4 million meals’ worth of food that might otherwise have been composted or thrown out, but instead was delivered into the hands of people who need it via our recipient agencies.

How many PROGRAMS & BUSINESSES did we partner with?

VB by Whole FoodsIn 2015, we received food from 62 amazing food donors, including grocery stores, farms, restaurants, universities, and many more.

We distributed that food via 112 different emergency food programs. Our fabulous recipient partners include homeless shelters, food pantries, afterschool programs, and more—programs where our food can reach the people who need it most.

How many DONORS supported this work?

2006-06-05 07.54.02 adjusted2In 2015, we received monetary contributions from just over 1100 individuals, businesses, and foundations.

If you’re one of those 1100, we’d like to give you a special shoutout: amidst your busy, variegated, and fascinating lives, you made time and money available to support your neighbors in need through food rescue—and we think that’s just fabulous! You gave made year-end gifts and monthly contributions, rode your bikes and hosted benefit events for Food Rescue, dined and danced at our gala, and so much more. In short, we think you’re the top!

Thank you for helping us bridge the gap between waste and want in 2015. Here’s looking at you, 2016!
